At the end of March, we came together for a special event: hedge planting! With seedlings provided by the Woodland Trust, we embarked on a mission to plant 105 saplings.

Our newly planted hedge serves a dual purpose. First and foremost, it acts as a windbreak, shielding our orchard from the blustery elements that can sometimes sweep through the area. But that’s not all! This living barrier also contributes to our local biodiversity.

As the hedge grows, it will provide essential habitats for a variety of insects and birds. The intertwining branches and foliage will become cozy homes for creatures big and small. From industrious bees to chirping sparrows, our hedge will be a bustling neighborhood for our winged and six-legged friends.

The carefully selected species in our hedge—rowan, hazel, dogrose, hawthorn, and blackthorn—will bear fruit in the future. These berries won’t just be a feast for the eyes; they’ll also be a feast for our wildlife.

Big thank you to all the volunteers who joined us on on the day!
